保守の行方

　対日「従軍慰安婦」非難決議を提案したアメリカのマイク・ホンダ議員を支援している中国系反日組織「世界抗日戦争史実維護連合会」のホームページを見ていたら、今年10月、アメリカのロサンゼルスで「日本軍性奴隷に関する国際会議」を開催する計画があることが判りました。

　その発信人はなんと日本人で、戦後補償ネットワーク世話人の有光　健氏。日本で「戦後補償」要求運動をしている活動家たちがしっかりと、アメリカの反日団体と連携して活動を繰り広げていることが判ります。

　アメリカ下院での「慰安婦」決議の雲行きが怪しくなってきたものだから、次の手を打とうということなのでしょうか。

　恐らく、朝日新聞やジャパン・タイムズなどは、中国共産党政府とも関係がある活動家たちの会合であるにもかかわらず、「アメリカで、一般の市民たちが立ち上がって従軍慰安婦問題について国際会議を開催した」みたいな記事を書くんでしょうね。
　そして、その記事を読んだ日本人たちは、「アメリカで慰安婦に対する批判がこれだけ高まっているのだから、やはり謝罪すべきではないか」なんて思うよう誘導されることになるんでしょう。

　しかし、インターネットの時代になると、誰がどのように動こうとしているのか、簡単に情報が入ります。
　朝日新聞の作為的な誘導記事にだまされないように、是非とも産経の古森記者には現地取材をお願いしたいと思います。

Conference Proposal

Description

The 2007 Los Angeles World Conference on Japanese Military Sexual Slavery will address the violence and war crimes against women, especially in the form of military sexual slavery, on an international level.  The World Conference is a global gathering of academics, non-governmental organizations, human rights activists, attorneys, artists, and importantly, survivors, to raise awareness and strategize about achieving justice for aging victims of Japan's World War II military sexual slavery, euphemistically known as the "comfort system," which is the largest sexual trafficking of women and war crimes against women in modern history. Focusing specifically on the Japanese "Comfort System" in Asia and the Pacific before and during World War II, the World Conference will explore the interconnections of militarism, colonialism, capitalism, racism and sexism and their material and discursive effects in contemporary Asia and the world. As an international, comprehensive, and action conference, the World Conference will raise awareness and mobilize communities of world citizens not only to ask unasked questions about human rights and basic freedoms, but also to coordinate concrete actions to achieve social justice and global peace.

Until 1993, the Japanese government officially denied that women captured or abducted in their occupied territories had been forced to work in "comfort stations" as sexual slaves. In 1987, Professor Jeong-Ok Yoon of Ehwa University in South Korea reported on the tragedy of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery, and brought an international awareness to the subject. In 1991, a former Japanese Military sexual slave, Hak-Soon Kim, testified publicly that she was a "comfort woman" during WWII, and in the same year a law suit was brought against the Japanese government. One year later, Professor Yoshimi Yoshiaki of Chuo University in Japan found wartime documents in the Library of the National Institute for Defense Studies that confirmed the existence of "comfort stations." In 1996, Ms. Radhika Coomaraswamy, the U.N. Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, and Ms. Gay J. McDougal, the Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Forms of Slavery, Systematic Rape, Sexual Slavery and Slavery-Like Practices during Armed Conflict, reported on Japanese Military Sexual Slavery. They strongly recommended the Japanese government to take legal responsibilities for the violations of international law. In addition to the UN, other international organizations like International Labor Organization, International Commission of Jurists, and the Amnesty International also recommended the Japanese government to make a sincere apology and offer reparations to the victims. (中略)

Objectives

Through the 2007 LA World Conference, we intend to achieve the following objectives.
First, we intend to increase international awareness and build coalitions. 
Second, we intend to articulate an accurate historical account of sexual war crimes against these "Japanese Military sexual slaves."  
Third, we intend to offer an educational experience for students about "Japanese Military Sexual Slavery" and war crimes against women.  
Finally, we intend that this conference will pressure the Japanese government and the international community to realize the gravity of these crimes and meet the demands of the victims. 
The seven demands are: 1) the Japanese government should admit to the crime of compulsorily drafting women as "comfort women," (2) all barbarities should be fully investigated, (3) an official apology should be made through the resolution of the Japanese Diet, (4) legal reparation should be made to the survivors and their bereaved families, (5) all the facts and truth about military sexual slavery by Japan should be recorded in Japanese history textbooks, (6) a Memorial and a Museum should be built, and (7) those responsible for these crimes should be punished. 

This unsolved issue of "comfort women" reveals the lack of seriousness that exists when dealing with the majority of war crimes against women in the world. 
The 2007 World Conference on JMSS will examine why and how such problems prevail.  We hope that this ongoing fight for social justice, peace, and human rights, demonstrates the possibility of hope and change. As Gay J. McDougal argues, "Through truth and justice comes reconciliation and healing, and where there is healing for the past, there is hope for the future." In discussing these matters, our event offers an interactive comprehensive educational experience where students can learn about the history of Asia, women, war crimes, and discuss important issues of social justice, peace, and human rights.  We plan to publish the proceedings from this week long conference.
